fresh paint, fresh pot, fresh snow...

I'm sitting at our lovely new table this morning, sipping my coffee and enjoying some yummy homemade biscotti that a sweet friend brought over and staring out the windows at the thick blanket of snow we received during the night! It really is quite the sight. The trees bending, their arms tired and heavy with heaps of white fluff, huge chunks falling from them and crackling down as the sun begins to warm things up. I have to admit I didn't want it to snow again, but it doesn't change the fact that it really is beautiful. (=

Before the storm rolled in, I spent Monday on our porch painting a small end table that I've been wanting to spice up. It was kind of a test run to see if I want to do my dresser the same color. I really really love the way it turned out! Since we aren't allowed to paint the walls in our place, bringing pops of color in with the furniture seems like the next best thing. Yesterday I finished it by adding some distressing. It's amazing what you can do with a can of paint and some sandpaper. Here's the before and afters! oh, and a some pix of our new table and stools!

I had a bunch of picture frames that were really mismatched - mostly dark woods. I thought I'd give them a makeover! I painted them all a nice antique white! Much more shabby chic...

Good morning and happy monday! It was such a beautiful weekend up here and since I didn't have to work, it was the first weekend in awhile that we really got to explore camp together! By Friday most of the snow melted and the sun was shining! Warm enough to wear a t-shirt! So Saturday we got up and went for a little hike. The forest starts right behind our house so off we went! We ran into an old dirt fire road and followed that until the snow kept us from going any farther. I found the fattiest pine cones I've ever seen! It totally blows my mind how many amazing and beautiful places we have right outside our door. I'm so excited for all the hiking and exploring that's in store for us as the weather continues to warm up and the land thaws out...

We spent the rest of the day working on stuff around the house, Aaron is building a coffee table out of a tree log and I'm working on repainting some furniture for our place! I'll definitely have to put up some before and after pix when we're all done.

That afternoon they opened up the snack shop (little fast food place next to the lake that serves burgers, fries, and shakes during summer). So we rode bikes down there and enjoyed dinner right next to the water along with a bunch of other staffers and their families. There are so many little ones here and it was entertaining seeing them running around and playing on the grass by the water. I think it was a tiny taste of what summer will be like...minus the hundreds and hundreds of screaming kids! haha

Yesterday we drove into Fresno and began our search for a sofa. Quite a draining experience. Aaron was done after the 3rd furniture store. It seems finding one we agree on, that will fit in our very small space, and that's still in our price range is going to be harder than we anticipated. But I'm not sure how much longer we can survive without one! When you're friends come over to watch a movie and can barely get through it because of back spasms and losing feeling in their legs due to sitting on the floor it's time to get a sofa!!! Not to mention, Aaron sat down in his lawn chair on Friday and it basically collapsed into a pile of twisted metal, so we are down to uno. Good news though! We did find the perfect stools for our table we got at World Market a couple weeks ago. So now we can at least eat like civilized people! Moving up in the world I tell ya...

my first ever blog post! and hopefully not the last...

Hi friends and family. Welcome to our blog! We had more than a couple people suggest to us before moving that starting one would be a great way to give people a glimpse into our new life and new adventures at Hume Lake. I must confess that consistent blogging has never been high on my list of things I want to accomplish in life...actually it was never on the list at all. BUT, I am willing to give this a shot.

So lets see here, it's April already?? Meaning we have officially been at Hume more than a month! Wow! Time is already flying and it isn't even summer yet. We are mostly settled into our humble little home and getting into the groove of our new jobs. For those of you who don't already know, Aaron is working in maintenance and I am so blessed to already have been given a job in the kitchen! The people up here are great, and so far have been nothing but friendly and welcoming to us, "the new couple". I can't even begin to express the beauty of God's creation that surrounds us. Glancing out the window at the towering pine trees or waking to a fresh blanket of snow. It still catches us off guard, it the best way possible. We hear this is the heaviest winter that Hume has had in quite a few years and the fact that we are getting huge snowstorms well into spring has some folks up here quite put off. Everybody is ready to make the shift into summer gear, but that isn't easy when you still have to plow the roads, dig out your car in the morning, and deal with falling trees due to snow weight. Or in Aaron's case, it's impossible to start cultivating and caring for the many lawns and grassy areas in camp when there are still covered in snow! But whatever, it's still exciting and new to us to experience actual seasons. I'm sure the time will come when I hate the snow, but now is not that time...

Well so much more to share, but it's time to make dinner for my hungry man.
